Naked DSL
So I’ve pretty much had naked DSL for 2 days now and didn’t know it. It seems that a storm that blew through here on Monday night knocked my home phone out but left the DSL working. That shows you how much I use my landline. I did notice that yesterday and today my sat receiver was complaining that I needed to connect a phone line but I just ignored the message. Tonight I got kind of curious and decided to call my home phone from the cell and see if the caller-id showed up on screen. Sure enough I got a busy signal. Checked the land line. No dial tone. I guess I could live with naked DSL after all.
You are all gay… I’m Just playing.
Yo its Patti-Trick here with the update my website is coming SOON.......
YEAH
...is not #1 this week! Finally....but the #1 song in the USA is very surprising. It goes to show what big money and a Clear Channel owned media can do.
The weekend has been delightfully boring thus far. I’m standing in the FM 102 Production studios because the chair is too short and it is simply more comfortable to stand. Saturday was spent watching a Three’s Company marathon on TVLand while cleaning up my apartment. Needless to say I was distracted several times by the computer and the TV. I did manage to get a lot accomplished. I also learned how Jack Tripper came to live with his two roomies (they found him in their bathtub!!)
After the cleaning and the TV watching, I made a delightful crawfish pasta dish for one using the leftover crawfish from Friday night’s feast with the boss. I sat down and ate it with Lewis Black. Unfortunately, my dinner invitation was declined (ok...I was turned down....a Puddle of Mud song comes to mind). Lewis was spectacular. I had heard a lot of his jokes before from his Rules of Enragement CD. Nevertheless, he was laugh-out-loud funny.
Warning: I’m about to whine:
Having been met with a cruel rejection (it was just plain mean) from a girl that I liked, I’ve decided that it’s time to move on. Apparently there is some rule about not eating out twice in the same week for your birthday. I’ll try to Google later and see if I am perhaps uninformed when it comes to birthdays!
The 2004 Voodoo Music Experience (6th Annual) is shaping up nicely. So far I have confirmed that The Pixies and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC) will be there. If these bands are any indication, it seems the 04 VMX will be a Coachella clone....not that there’s anything wrong with that
A lot of ideas are floating in my head for my new web presence. All will be revealed in June 04. Oh and I learned today that I share a birthday with Robert Smith, the lead singer of The Cure. The Cure has a new album on the way. Perhaps they will be at Voodoo to support it? Either way, I know one person that won’t be going and one person that will.
I’m still here
Has anyone wondered what I’ve been up to for the past two weeks? I’ve barely had a free moment to myself since I got back from vacation this week. I went home for spring break and did absolutely nothing. I don’t have any amazing stories to tell about going home because I literally did nothing.
When I got back in to town last Friday I had to pack up the FM 102 cruiser and drive to Ruston for the Michelle Branch concert. I talked my way into pulling the cruiser up next to the doors of the Thomas Assembly Center. It was nice (look for pics on the 102 site this weekend). After the promotion, Fast Eddie and I took our seats (front row). The concert was substandard. Joe Firstman ROCKED! Go pick up his album NOW. I have my copy (and it’s autographed by the band!) Rooney wasn’t all that great even though the lead singer, Robert Carmine, acknowledged me during one of the songs. I had bought their album a few weeks back and really enjoyed the song PopStars. When he introduced the song the audience went quiet except for me yelling out “HELL YEA! ROCK!” Robert looks at me and says “so you’ve heard it? ... alright!” During their set, Robert’s guitar quit working on him and it was swiftly taken off stage by a roadie only to be returned later in the set.
At 10pm on the dot, Michelle Branch takes the stage. I was surprised to see that she has a female backup singer with her on tour. I was also surprised to see how raw and wet she was. She sat down to play the keyboard and quickly realized that the sustain pedals weren’t working. She attempts to play the song anyway but her bass guitarist cringes at her. She give up on it and gives the keyboard an evil eye for the rest of the night. Later on she’s singing away and stops suddenly. She giggles and turns her back to the audience. Branch turns to the audience and says “I’m real sorry guys but if anyone knows the next line of the song, I’ll pay you five bucks.” Someone in the crowd yells out the lyric and she tells them that they get the money and continues on. I thought it was a gag until after the song she asks the band members for the money. When they refuse to cough it up, Branch walks backstage, gets her purse, and produces a ten dollar bill. What she does next is crazy. She asks the audience to change a ten. Some wacko throws a five on stage and Branch says “oh we’re throwing money now?” She then asks who threw it and the crowd goes wild for it. She turns her back and throws it like a bouquet. Later on she apologizes for the crappy show and says that she’s going to surprise everyone, even the band. She said that she wanted to do something that they’ve never done before on tour and the band looks at her worriedly. She starts playing a chord and looks at the band and says “come on guys you know this one...” They look at her confused and she walks to each one and whispers what she has planned. The next thing I know they’re rocking out to the Santana/Branch song Game of Love complete with the Santana guitar solo (to which Branch’s guitarist covered quite well). It was an interesting night full of surprises to say the least.
Monday we went live with Sean Hannity on AM 540 (sorta). There were some satellite problems on our end. You can now enjoy Sam Donaldson, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Michael Savage weekdays on AM 540. Dare I say we’ve got the best AM radio station in north Louisiana? I’ve got one more surprise up my sleeve and that’s going to have to wait a few weeks before I can reveal it. It’s exciting news of a new program that is coming exclusively to KNOE radio. I cannot reveal more for pain of death!
Yesterday was my birthday....big woop...today was the official observance of my birthday. A few people at work decided to bring lunch for me today. I thought it was going to be no big deal. I walk into the radio lobby and nearly everyone I know from KNOE are seated waiting for me. I’m treated to a wonderful pot luck buffet of food. They really went all out for me. I hadn’t seen this sort of celebration at KNOE radio since I have been there. I was sort of down on my birthday because none of my friends wanted to hang out and some didn’t even wish me a happy birthday (some still haven’t....*cough*Amanda*cough*). Today showed me that people really do care about me and it felt good.
Fast forward to tonight. If I hadn’t mentioned it already, I’ve joined the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) at ULM. I’ve been going to the meetings every month (mainly to socialize and get free pizza). It turns out all of the current officers are graduating so tonight elections were held. Heath nominated me for Webmaster and I was unopposed. I’m now the Webmaster for the ULM chapter of AITP. It’s going to be interesting. The website hasn’t been updated in two years and the organization doesn’t even have access to update it if they wanted to. I’m going to have a fun time getting everything straightened out. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to bring a student organization’s website back from the dead. I’ve faced these same hurdles with Tech’s campus radio station, KLPI. Oh, Heath is the Vice President for External Affairs for AITP. He’s in charge of planning tours of businesses and getting guest speakers. As of now, I have even less free time.
One final thing; I had to replace my cell phone today. Apparently the original phone was defective. Unfortunately I’ve lost my address book with all of my numbers in it. If I don’t call you, that’s why. So call me if I’ve given you my number in the past and I’ll add you back in the book. So far this new phone works so much better. It’s a Sanyo VM 4500 if anyone’s interested. It’s the camera phone that I use for my MoBlog. Look for more pics from the MoBlog soon.
Wow, over 1000 words. This is nearly an essay. Happy reading, I’ll leave you to it.
Time for an update!
Woooo! *exhales*
Alright well half of the spring semester is over! Let’s say I’m over the hump as far as school goes. Spring Break is officially here. It’s been a rather intense week and I’m glad that it’s coming to an end. Let’s rewind to last Friday.
Friday was the 2nd annual FM102 crawfish boil out at Cormiers. I ate my way through more than 5lbs of crawfish. My coworkers are still telling tails of how many crusty crustaceans I put away. I started eating at 4:30 and didn’t stop until 7. Sure a lot of time was spent socializing but I packed away quite a few crawfish. Shortly after leaving the shindig, Johnny (from the Ruston days) calls me up. He invites me to join the Ruston crew at Logan’s steakhouse for dinner and a movie. I met up with Dave, James, and Belinda. It’s been several months since I last saw the Ruston crew. For some reason they never include me in anything they do anymore. I played with the free food since I had just eaten my fill of crawfish (see the moblog for more detail). We went to see Hellboy afterwards. I didn’t care for it too much but it did beat Jersey Girl =P A little observation I made: in the old days, the Ruston crew would stay till the bitter end of a movie. Once the credits rolled, out went the crew members with girlfriends attached to them. It’s funny how girls change people.
Saturday I hung out with Amanda. Saturdays at Amanda’s are becoming a weekly event. We went to Quiznos (yes I talked her into eating at Q-nos) and then the mall. I learned that Amanda is a hyper mall shopper. Once she enters the mall doors she is on warp speed. She ziggs and zaggs in and out of isles faster than the speed of light. I could barely keep up. I’m not complaining because I’d much rather shop with a girl that knows what she wants and cuts to the chase than a girl that spends all day looking for the “perfect outfit.” After the mall we went back to her house and watched the pilot episode of the hit TV show Alias. I must say that after watching the pilot, I’m hooked. Amanda’s got the box set of Season 1. I’m currently borrowing the first 2 DVDs of that set. I had to put up my FLCL DVDs as collateral though.
Monday through Wednesday: lots of work, a test and I came down with a cold. Not to worry, I’m getting better. Wednesday afternoon I went back out to Black Bayou with Amanda. I brought my camera and took some pictures We were actually having a photo shoot off. I’ll know who the winner is tomorrow when I see both pictures side by side.
I may have made mention of this in a previous post but I’m going home next week. I’ll be mostly unavailable until next Friday. I plan to redesign EVERYTHING about my internet existence. Rome wasn’t built in a day but hopefully I can redefine BrendanSpaar.com in a week. Gabe will be producing Midday News Talk Sports in my absence. He’s filled in before and I’m sure he’ll do fine. I’ve been combining two weeks worth of work into this week to make up for my absence next week. Early this week I was given another big project. This is probably the single largest project since AM 540 went on the air. I can’t go into details here but if you’re really curious, I’m told the announcement will be made next Wednesday on First News Talk Sports (8am) and Midday News Talk Sports (1pm).
Let’s see...what else....oh yea. I’ll be on FM 102 Saturday from noon - 6pm. I’m working up a new show open so be sure to tune in for that. 102 brought back jingles this week and we’re doing show openers now. I am tossing a few ideas around so who knows what will make the airwaves Saturday.
That’s all for me....Brendan out (ha! just seeing if you’re paying attention! =P )
