Well this is the part of the website where I tell a little about myself. If you haven’t figured it out by now, my name is Brendan. I was born and (mostly) raised near New Orleans, Louisiana. This would explain my love of seafood, music, and warm weather! I briefly lived near Houston, Texas but thankfully got out of there before I developed the infamous East Texas accent. Maybe this could explain why I really don’t have much of an accent at all.
Since as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in computers. My first computer was a 33mhz Dell desktop. This was almost immediately updated to a whopping 66mhz chip. In high school, I took an interest in web design and volunteered to redesign and maintain the school’s website. I also learned to code in BASIC, PASCAL, and C++.
In an effort to make new friends in college, I joined the campus radio station. One thing I quickly learned was that if you were motivated, you will go far in college radio. I hosted a weekly alternative rock program and interviewed bands like Nickelback, Alien Ant Farm, and Saliva. I started out as an Underwriting Director (Sales) and moved on to the Production Director role which allowed me to produce promos and commercials for the station.I even spent a summer as the station’s General Manager.
After spending some time in college radio, I decided to go pro. I was hired on at KNOE FM102, Monroe’s 100,000 watt Contemporary Hit Radio (CHR) station. I hosted a weekly music and entertainment show called The Sunday Interactive. This 6 hour program, broadcasted throughout north Louisiana, featured the hottest music and latest celebrity gossip.
Once I was established, my computer talents were discovered and I was recruited to re-program FM102’s sister station AM540. This station switched from a country format to a news-talk format virtually overnight. I was required to create daily show logs from scratch and make the automation program switch between multiple satellite inputs. Besides providing technical support for the radio station, I took on producing duties for the daily talk show, Midday News Talk Sports. This allowed me to book exciting, thought provoking guests including: William Pearson, Founder of Mental Floss Magazine and Danny Kastner, contestant on the Apprentice: 3. I went on to become the Program Director for AM 540 which allowed me to make key decisions that shaped the News-Talk-Sports leader for the Ark-La-Miss. From time to time I even filled in as a host for both the morning and afternoon talk shows (sometimes on the same day!)
Today, I work for at&t, the largest provider of both local and long distance telephone services, wireless service (Cingular), and DSL internet access in the United States.
