Digital Digs
I haven’t been posting a lot lately because I simply haven’t been home. I’ve mostly been working. I met a friend (Jess) Friday and had lunch with her. It’s the first real time I’ve met anyone for lunch @ ULM.
Working means one big thing....MONEY! We all know what money is good for...buying cool stuff! Here’s some new additions to the apartment:
Computer Desk 1
Computer Desk 2
New Shaver
UPS w/ auto shutdown USB hookup
I’m looking into getting a surround sound system next. I’m debating between The Sony and The Kenwood. Has anyone heard anything good/bad about either? I can’t find any reviews on the Kenwood online and the Sony has nothing but raves. The Kenwood has more audio inputs.
Hit me!
I’m putting off doing some COBOL homework and was looking at the August results for BrendanSpaar.com. Keep in mind that I went live on the new server on Aug. 21st. In that time, I got 10,028 hits! Over 8,000 of those hits were from WindowsXP users running Internet Explorer. It seems like the #1 requested page was the webcam so maybe I need to turn that on more. I used 56mb out of my alloted 30gb in bandwidth. Here are a couple of odd stats. It shows I was linked from TheBroken.org (Kevin Rose’s site). I’m guessing someone clicked a link in my blog to check out his video and he checked out my site in his stats. Also most people found my site on search engines by typing Kevin Rose’s name or “Kevin rose hacking video”. I’m not going to mirror that video because it would eat my 30gb VERY quickly and my site would die!
It can only get better from here! I got a call on Labor Day from some guy who was trying to download some jingles off the multimedia part of the site. He found my site through Fast Eddie (DJ @ 102). I’m going to work on tweaking my results with the search engines so that more people can find me. I’m also listed on several blog communities and I try to trackback to the popular blogs when I can. Thanks to everyone for checking the site out and keep em coming!
Another reason to get Dish!
Megan recently posted to her blog that she couldn’t stand network TV and didn’t want to pay for cable - a service that takes more than it gives. Click here to read her blog. When I moved from Ruston to Monroe, I called our local cable company, Time Warner. I told the sales rep that the deciding factor of cable over satellite was one channel - TechTV. After minutes of her asking other people in the office she came back to me and told me that they did not offer that network and had no plans to do so in the future. I searched out for the perfect satellite TV setup. I went online and found that Dish offered a free PVR if you paid $50 more to activate the service. This is by far the best deal I’ve ever seen. Watch out if you are going to get Dish and go to Radioshack...I had to get on the phone with the Dish sales rep that Radioshack called to inform them of which plan I wanted. I guess very few people care about PVR’s. After using the PVR since March, I cannot see why ANYONE wouldn’t want to go without this! Just Sunday night I recorded 2 hours of the Sopranos so that I could go play Outburst over at Lauren’s. The quality is excellent. My only gripe is I could only fit about 50-60 hours of programming on there. You may think I’m crazy for griping about 60 hours but those hours go by fast! Think about it, if you wanted to record a season’s worth of Soprano’s episodes, there goes 12 hours. I’ve gotten to where I record segments of shows instead of the full show. Dish Network is the way to go. Excellent service and features for your money. Oh and did I mention that the PVR has a RF remote!!! I can control the TV from my bedroom where I’ve got the signal split into!
I hate time cards!
Nearly an hour and a half into my shift today I realized that I had forgotten to punch in. I went over to our lovely new time clock and punched in. Well I punched in on the wrong card! For the year that I have worked at KNOE the work week was always Monday through Sunday. Since the old time clock broke down last week and we had to get a new one, the work week now goes Sunday through Saturday. I grabbed the correct card and punched in with that. Everything was good or so I thought. When I went to punch out, it put 12:15 *IN. This new system says when you arrive and when you leave. I wanted to punch out so I should have seen *OUT. I waited a minute and punched it again. This time there was no *IN or *OUT next to my time. I waited another minute and punched it again. Another *IN by my time. GRRR...I just left it and will have to clear it all up later.
In other work news, I will be laboring on Labor Day. Yes, that’s right, you can hear me on FM 102 from Noon till 6pm Monday. I’ll still be on First News Talk Sports Tuesday and Wednesday.
I’m Pooped
Phew....who would have known that my first day of school could wear me out so badly. Here’s what went down. I went to Business Communication and Database today. In Database, the professor tells me that the Finance department is trying to hunt me down. Turns out they’ve canceled my finance class. I went back home and sat down and weighed my options. I really didn’t want to take Finance at 8am but I needed to see if that would push my graduation date back any if I just droped it till next semester. Turns out I shouldn’t be taking Database right now. I should take Cobol because it’s only offered once a year. So I dropped Finance and switched from Database to Cobol. I’ll take Advanced Cobol and Finance next semester and postpone Database till next fall. I’ll definately graduate next fall for sure. I’ve also lightened my load from 15 hours each semester down to 12. It will be less stressful and that’s always a good thing.
My mom is talking about taking a vacation next summer so I may only go one summer session. She is throwing around Ireland. That would be hella cool...I’ll have to charge the digicam up! Dad’s addicted to the Kerpal “You kicked my dog” mp3. Somebody sent it to him at work and he’s quoting it. It’s scary. Oh and 3 more days until LaTech gets stomped on by Miami. I’ll be at the game with the digicam!
