An update is due

[Listening to: The Ataris - in this diary]

Wow the week is almost over and I haven’t blogged about it!  On Monday I ordered A BUNCH OF FUN STUFF online.  I’ll blog about them as they arrive.  Just be aware that lots of fun stuff is headed my way.  Tuesday Amanda came over and raided my cd collection.  I think she made off with 6 of my cds.  I got two of them back today.  We went to Sonic.  I’m addicted to Sonic’s strawberry shakes for some reason.  Wednesday was another boring work day.  Then today was Staind tix day.  I woke up at 6:30 and got to campus around 7:45.  I totally forgot that I was supposed to meet Amanda in front of the Admin building so she had to chase me down.  There was an excellent turn out for tickets.  When we got there about 10 till 8 there were about 40 people ahead of us (we got tickets 56 and 57).  When we got out of line I’d say there were another 100 people behind us.  Tech’s Union Board didn’t do this well the day tickets went on sale.  I’m hyped about the show.  I found out Sevendust and Lo-Pro are opening for Staind.  I’m super excited to see Sevendust but even more excited to see Lo-Pro.  Go check them out over at LoProMusic.com.  I have their album on preorder.  It drops Sept 30th.  Oh yea, it’s Amanda’s first concert ever and we got floor tix!  Rock on!

Alright here’s the part of the blog where I try to persuade my readers to join me.  I WANT TO GO TO VOODOO 2003 but don’t have an entourage.  I need a posse to go with me down to New Orleans for this 3 day festival.  Need convincing??  Here’s the band list:

The White Stripes
Marilyn Manson
Godsmack
Queens of the Stoneage
Staind
Cypress Hill
P.O.D.
Paul Oakenfold
A Perfect Circle
The Donnas
Fuel
Adema
Cowboy Mouth
Better Than Ezra
12 Stones

Also check it out.  Cat has redesigned her blog and gotten a MoBlog!  Go Cat!

Update

My nonstop work week continues.  I’m sitting up at a radio station right now running the board for the Tulane Football game.  Last night I ran the board for the OCS Football game.  Tomorrow I will be at work doing the weekly Sunday shift.  Let’s walk through my weekend so far.

Friday:  as I was walking to my car from class I happened to get behind Amanda and Lauren.  I snuck up and grabbed their backpacks =D We talked for a while till it started raining.  We moved to Lauren’s house.  Lauren is pushing her wedding back a week so I’ll probably be able to go now.  She was having problems printing her invitations so I helped as best I could.  Later that night as I was running the OCS game, Lauren calls and asks if I want to get together and play Mario Kart.  Of course I did!  Any chance to play my rival (Amanda) is awesome fun!  They picked up Sonic and headed to my place after the game.  I got a Strawberry shake.  The shake was good but messy.  If you don’t know me, food is attracted to me.  I can’t help it!  Lots of fun with Mario Kart.  Amanda gave me a run for my money but I ended up with 1st place (although she’ll say I cheated).

Saturday:  I had to be up at 102 for 7am.  I met Randi Guess up there and we went to Forsythe Park for the Race for the Cure.  We took turns with the remotes.  I did my first live remote for 102!  woohoo!  I think I did great (Randi said so too).  There was only one slip up.  During one break I said “The Breast Awareness Foundation” instead of Breast Cancer Awareness....oops =P After the remote I went home and slept for two hours.  After that I ate lunch and met James and Joel at Tinseltown to see Cabin Fever.  It was entertaining but nothing spectacular.  There were moments where I wanted to yell “you’re stupid!” at the screen.  Are all college students that get lost in the woods morons?  The evening wrapped up with a Tulane football game with some bugs...or should I say birds?  About 30 minutes into the broadcast the signal dropped.  A check of the satellite dish revealed BIRDS were hanging out up there.  Football....it’s for the birds.

P.S.  Brett Larson‘s last day with TechTV is Monday.  Everyone should tune in Monday @ 2pm CST for his last show....he will be missed.

...and…

In Memory

As everyone in America and abroad knows (simply by turning on the television or radio), today is the second anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on United States soil.  Last year I shut my entire site down, as Wil Wheaton has done this year.  I put up a tribute page in place of my website explaining how the attacks had affected me that day.  This year I will simply pay my respects through my blog.  I feel that the first anniversary was time to morn and reflect and that with the passage of the second, it is time for everyone to move on and not to dwell on the events any longer.  I am not saying that we should ever forget what transpired on that fateful day two years ago.  We should no longer sensationalize the day.  September 11th will ultimately be a second “Day that will live in infamy” and it will be remembered as such.  People will stop at 8:01am to pay their respects and then continue on with their day in a valiant effort to show terrorists all over the world that we will not stand down.  Let’s begin this today, I know I am.

Many of you didn’t see my website last year.  I will recount my day as best I can recall one last time.  This is to show that everyone was affected by the tragic events in some way.

I awoke a little before 8am for the first day of classes on my Tuesday/Thursday block.  I was flipping through the channels and landed on CNN, a channel I normally watched when I was getting ready for class.  They were reporting some breaking news about a plane that had accidentally crashed into the World Trade Center.  Since it was early enough in the morning, I thought to myself “I hope no one was in there”.  I continued watching Aaron Brown, a news anchor that I had never heard of, broadcast live from the roof of the CNN center in New York.  He was standing with his back to the smoking tower.  It was about this time that I saw a black speck over his shoulder crash into the second tower.  The sight was too much to take in.  My first reaction was “how the hell could someone be flying planes into our buildings!  Where is the security!” I still think this to myself.  Shortly after the second plane crash my parents called to see if I knew what was going on.

At 8:40am, I was still debating to go to class or not when a third plane crashed into the Pentagon.  I decided then that I should stay in my dorm and witness the events as they unfold live so that I could write about it on my website a year later.  Throughout the morning, I watched such events as both towers crumble and people fleeing for their lives.  I witnessed the uncertainty of this nation, something that I had never seen before.  It seemed like time itself was standing still.  President Bush left Florida and headed for Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, only one hour away from where I was.  I found it rather odd that I knew the President’s whereabouts because if I knew, any terrorist wanting to undermine our nation knew as well.  Luckily nothing happened and Bush only stayed in Shreveport for an hour or so before being shuttled to the Midwest.  Around noon, seeing that no new developments were happening, I left my room, got lunch, and went to my office at the campus radio station, KLPI.  I stayed there monitoring the news over the internet for the rest of the day.  No one seemed to be on campus, it was like the world had stopped spinning.  In the days that followed, no one really talked about the events of September 11th much.  Everyone was still in shock, I believe...too confused to make any comments.  It just so happens that a tube on the transmitter blew up the night of Sept 10th.  We weren’t able to repair it for nearly two weeks because of the backlog of all shipments due to the grounding of air traffic.  The campus radio station was off the air during the days that followed the attacks.  I hosted a tribute show days after we returned to the airwaves.

More Digital Digs

[Listening to: Cold - Kill the Music Industry]

I was watching TechTV’s Digital Digs program tonight and drooling the whole way through.  I missed the original airing of the show because of work but I must say...this has me green with envy.  I didn’t enter the contest this year but rest assured that next year I will enter!  The guy that won got $100,000 worth of Tech gear ranging from an Espresso machine to Tivo’s and Plasma TV’s!  This weekend I’m planning to take a trip to Shreveport and pick up two new “toys.” I plan to purchase a Kenwood 600-Watt Dolby Digital/DTS Home Theater System and the sleek new PLEXTOR 4X/2X/12X DVD+/-R/RW

In a random Tech note, I’ve decided against getting a camera phone for the purpose of a MoBlog.  I carry my digital camera around with me wherever I go normally and this does quite well for archiving my life in pictures.  I don’t really see any point of instant photo posting right now.  I can load up about 32 high-res pics on my digicam and dump them to the web when I get home.  I plan on buying a 128mb memory card so that I can hold hundreds of high-res pics at a time.  I’m currently working from a 32mb card.

School news....Dr. Thameling (Speech Communication) is wacko tobacco!  He switched classrooms on us today without telling anyone.  He walked into our normal classroom 5 minutes late to inform us we were meeting in another room.  When we walked to the new room he was standing next to a fire extinguisher pointing at it repeating “this is the fire extinguisher.” The man reminds me of Mr. Garrison from SouthPark for some strange reason.  We had our first exam in there today.  It had an essay question which I answered with superb intellect and grammar.  I hope to get high marks on it smile Tomorrow is COBOL and Business Communication.  That reminds me...I need to print out my resume!

Concert Announcement

[Listening to: Staind - Price to Play]

There’s your hint.  Check out what I’m listening to.  Oh alright, I’ll go ahead and spill the beans.  But first you’ll have to listen to my ramblings.  If you’re a regular to my blog, you will remember about a month and a half ago I ranted about a competing radio station making false claims about bringing a concert to ULM.  Well today I can finally confirm that there will be a concert at ULM.  The band, Staind.  The date, Tuesday October 14th.  This info is VERY fresh.  I have no details about where on campus the concert will be.  I remember when they were throwing around ideas/rumors before, they were talking about having it in the tailgate area behind the stadium (horrible location).

In other news, if you want to catch me out and about, I will be at Forsythe Park this Saturday from 7am - 10am for the charity event Race for the Cure.  Also I’ll be on FM 102 Saturday September 20th from 6a - noon.  I’ve added two new MoBlogs to my blog.  I REALLY want a MoBlog so stay tuned....there may be one from me headed this way.
