Phew.

[Listening to: Type O Negative - Life is Killing Me]

I just returned from delivering the FM 102 cruiser to the LA Wildlife and Fisheries.  We’re going to be out there in full force tomorrow.  Last night was hella fun.  Yes, I actually had fun at the fair.  Amanda showed up and we hung out for about 3 hours.  Check out the pics in the photo album.  We did the bumper cars and went on the lame haunted house ride.  The haunted house ride got a lil scary because our car got stuck (figures).  I ate my first elephant ear and it was great!  The food at the fair is so much better than the rides.  Ah, my paycheck is VERY FAT this month!  What does that mean?  Cool tech item #2.  I’ll be ordering it Monday.  If you’ve been following the blog, you know what it is.

I watched my first screener today.  It wasn’t for a movie though.  I screened the WB’s new Fall Season.  I have to say I’m not impressed with the new season.  Let me break down the new shows and my opinions:

Like Family : 16 year old white guy (looks 20) gets into trouble and has to live with his black godparents.  For some strange reason his mom is still there.  When she goes to work, the godmother takes over and bosses the guy around.  He keeps getting embarassed by this family.  It seems somewhat funny in parts.  There is a Steve Earkel sort of guy that is trying to date his (god?)sister.  He gets defensive in one part.

Run of the House:  3 college aged and one high school girl are left home alone by their parents for the ENTIRE WINTER!  The oldest one (who looks like Joey Laurence) assumes control.  This lasts for about 5 seconds.  The girls take over by doing what girls do best....being moody.  All the girls have to do is start crying and they get their way.  Oh of course the parents left their neighbor a key so she could snoop in all the time and add to the situation comedy.  This looks cool if you are a 10 year old that dreams of your parents leaving for three months.  For everyone else, avoid this.

All About the Andersons:  This is supposed to be loosely based on comedian Anthony Anderson’s life.  He’s an aspiring actor who moves back in with his family.  He’s got a son and he’s constantly trying to show that he has things under control when he couldn’t get an audition to save his life.

Tarzan:  WHAT THE FUCK?  They are making a TV show about Tarzan!  This is crazy....sigh...ok, here’s the rundown...This guy’s family’s private jet goes down in the Congo.  His parents die but he survives and lives like a savage.  Little does he know that he’s the heir to the family fortune.  Someone from his father’s company hunts him down in Africa and brings him back to the US....why you ask?  To make a show for the WB?  NO!  To fall in love with a girl name Jane?  No!  Although he does.  He brings him back to the states to keep him from inheiriting the family fortune.  Couldn’t he have just killed him in the Congo?  Oh yea, then we wouldn’t have this show.  Maybe we’d be better off....

One Tree Hill:  Utter garbage.  It’s Varsity Blues only with basketball.  Two stepbrothers are living two different lives.  The father has all but disowned one brother because he’s no good at basketball.  The other brother is the star of the team.  Well for some odd reason the red headed step-child (ok he doesn’t really have red hair but you get the point) wants to best the brother and prove everyone wrong.  All season long they will build up to this one-on-one basketball game between the two brothers.  If the sucessful brother wins, the lowlife brother has to give up his aspirations of being cool for the next 2 years.  If the nothing brother wins, the successful brother has to quit the team and hang out with the uncool kids for the next 2 years.  Who will win?  ME!  I won’t be watching it so I’ll win some extra minutes to my life!

Steve Harvey’s Big Time:  w00t w00t!  I’m actually looking forward to this show.  Finally a show that I liked.  Steve takes “average everyday people” and gives them their 15 minutes of fame.  I know for a fact that all the people on the show aren’t average because I saw someone famous I’d met.  Gyro from the Flaming Idiots.  He was on the screener making bologna sandwitches with his feet.  Steve interviews one girl who knows all of Bush’s cabinent and selected state governers.  Out of the 6 shows I’ve mentioned, watch this one.

Tonight Amanda and crew are coming over to watch a movie on the new surround sound system.  Tomorrow I’m at the Hunting and Fishing Day.  Sunday I’m on air at FM 102 6am - noon.

Now let’s review this weeks CD releases:

Dave Matthews - Some Devil ::  GOOD
Fuel - Natural Selection :: HELLA GOOD!
Limp Bizkit - Results May Vary :: GOOD
Rob Zombie - Past, Present & Future :: NICE COMPILATION
Nickelback - The Long Road :: SAME OLD SAME OLD

My life in surround sound!

[Listening to: Bad Religion - 21st Century Digital Boy]

Today I finally had time to sit down and redo my entertainment center.  I also added the Kenwood 5.1 system to my living room.  Check out the pic of the new setup! I must admit that watching TV is a whole new experience in surround sound.  Shows that don’t utilize Dolby encoding (The Screen Savers) sound richer because of the power of an amplifier vs. the regular tv speakers.  Some shows are actually enhanced for surround sound.  I was watching the Daily Show tonight and heard the audience noise out of the surround speakers and the anchor’s out of the front.  Of course I had to pop in my Star Wars DVD and listen to the THX opener and hear the ships whiz by from left to right.  I extended an invitation to Lauren, Heath, and Amanda (because you don’t get Amanda without Lauren and Heath...grumble) to come watch a movie Friday night.  Maybe we’ll watch Chicago or something.

In my pants

[Listening to: Dave Matthews - Gravedigger]

Here is a twist to the classic “in bed” fortune cookie game.  The “in bed” fortune cookie game goes like this:  Break open your fortune cookie and read your fortune.  Now add ... in bed.  to the end of the fortune.  It will turn the fortune into something like this:  You will achieve great things...in bed.  Now, head on over to CNN.COM and take a look at the headlines.  Now add “in my pants” to the end of a headline.  I just made one:  Schools tackle PDA problem in my pants.  Hours of fun and entertainment await you!

+stalkers - yep....I’ve got stalkers again!  w00t w00t!  This one girl is 20 from West Monroe and is trying to get my #
+me - I didn’t wreck the FM 102 cruiser!  I was nervous but I made it!  Phew!  Also +++ me for making the Whipping Boy jealous!  Here’s the story.  After I got back to the station Saturday night I hung out for the rest of the night with Isaac, taking every one of his breaks.  We got to talking on air about all the bands that I’ve met personally.  I told the story about how I took Alien Ant Farm out partying after their show.  After I told the story the phone rings....it’s Whip...he says “oh I’m sorry...I was trying to call Rock 106, the REAL rock station. (click)”.

Losers:
-The fair - is it just me or does the fair suck for singles?  I was at the fair for 5 and a half hours yesterday and as the night wore on I became more and more depressed.  When 10pm rolled around I was trying my best to fake a smile and enthusiasm.  The whole theme of the fair is for couples: most the rides have two seats together; the prizes are geared toward guys winning them for their girl.  I know you couldn’t tell from my broadcasts but I didn’t have fun.  Isaac and Bobby raved that I was almost too enthusiastic with my breaks and it made them want to come down to the fair.
-UPS - Normally delivers between 5 and 5:30....they came well after 6 to drop off cool package #1 :(
-SimCity 4 - quit kicking my ass already...all I want to do is build a city that lasts more than 5 years!
-eBay - your Passport interface for bidding is fucked up...fix it so I can use Buy It Now!
-Spam - 78 spam messages this weekend while I was away from my computer!
-The West Wing - The Sopranos should have won Best Drama Series.

What a day!

[Listening to:  BRMC - Love Burns]

Phew.  Let me catch my breath.  Ok...now let me rant about my day.  I went to class and got a call from Toby O. at the end of my first class.  I was planning on skipping COBOL because we had lab today and the prof doesn’t check roll in the lab.  Lab in programming classes is basically for those who don’t have a computer to use over the weekend or those looking to get an extra edge.  I went to work to see what was up.  I walked in and Toby points me to Bobby’s office.  Toby walks in behind me and closes the door.  He hands me the keys to the KNOE cruiser and says “take it for a test drive because tomorrow you’re taking it to the fair.” Yea, in addition to working the 6am - noon shift at KNOE, running the Tulane game for another station, I have my first ever solo remote tomorrow from the fair.  Not only do I have to drive a foreign vehicle (a monster one at that), I have to go in the back entrance of the Civic Center.  My instructions begin with “go through the graveyard.” If anyone in the Monroe area is reading this, PLEASE come out and see me Saturday from 5-10pm at the Ark-la-miss Fair.  You can’t miss me, I’ll be by the FM 102 cruiser at the front of the venue.  If anything good came out of the whole thing, I’ve got a season pass to the fair and a season parking pass.  If anyone wants to go to the fair and park for free, I’ll go with you.  I just posted to Amanda’s blog with the same offer.

Football was interesting tonight.  The show almost didn’t get off the ground.  There was a short in the mixer David and Don (announcers) were using at the game.  They got it working with minutes to spare.  I have to say that they are prime examples of colorful commentary in broadcasting.  Several times I found myself laughing out loud at their antics.  OCS won their second straight shutout, 44-0.  And now I’m off to sleep because I’ve got to be on air in 8 hours.
